Twitter looks to enhance its ties with the developer community with the re-launch of his conference ‘Chirp’that gathers developers and Twitter team members to discuss the latest initiatives, share ideas, and provide answers to key technical questions.
How do you explain it? Twitter:
“The Chirp Developer Conference is a celebration of the innovation developers have brought to Twitter, the opportunities they’re looking forward to, plus a few surprises.”
The conference, which will take place on November 16, will include keynote sessions, reveals and community engagement initiatives, with both IRL (in San Francisco) and online components throughout the day.
The relaunch will also see Twitter hold its Chirp Developer Challenge, where developers are invited to submit their most exciting, creative and innovative uses of the Twitter API.
More than $520,000 in prizes will be awarded in three categories:
- Content discovery applications
- Conversation security tools
- Public good applications
That could help Twitter find new use cases and development opportunities, beyond the capacity of its own team.
Although whether or not Twitter will be able to develop them will largely depend on who is in charge, with Elon Musk still in the process of (probably) buying the app.
With Musk at the helm, big changes to Twitter’s roadmap are expected, with various elements being reprioritized according to Musk’s plan. That could mean development initiatives like these gain more traction, or they could be shelved altogether, but either way, it makes sense for Twitter to continue to build relationships with the developer community with an eye to finding better ways forward for the app.
For general users, that doesn’t mean much right now, but it could end up providing fresh inspiration for Twitter’s next major updates and additions.
Twitter continues to be the leader in real-time engagement and interaction, providing a great deal of insight, if it can be harnessed, and perhaps the Chirp conference will be the starting point for a whole new way of looking at tweets.
